I oversee VacForce’s hydro vacuum excavation fleet, managing asset maintenance, compliance, and deployment across WA, including support for mining and civil projects.

Potholing

Utility Location

Potholing is a method used to physically expose underground services (like water pipes, gas lines, electrical cables, and telecom conduits) to confirm their exact position, depth, and type.
This locating is referred to as Class A locate. This will be required by most Contractors to comply with SWMS, and a requirement from Utility provides to make sure their assets are protected and kept safe.
Potholing can be performed via small vacuum trailer units or larger Vacuum Trucks if ground conditions require this.
Once located, market posts are placed above the asset which shows which service and at what depth the service is at. This will remain there until works are complete and removed afterwards and backfilled will yellow sand.

Non-Destructive Digging

Safe Excavation

Our NDD process uses high-pressure water to safely break up soil, turning it into a slurry which is then vacuumed into our truck.

This creates a safe, efficient method for trenching and excavating around underground services such as:

Electrical cables
Water pipes
Gas lines
Comms infrastructure

This method prevents costly damage, minimises risk, and ensures compliance with strict safety protocols.

GPR Underground Service Locating

Ground Penetrating Radar

GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) works by transmitting pulses of energy into the ground through an antenna. These signals are reflected back when they encounter subsurface objects or changes in material.
The system then analyses these reflections to determine the location and depth of detected objects, allowing for a detailed understanding of underground infrastructure.
One of the key advantages of Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is its ability to identify non-metallic services, such as PVC water and gas pipes. In addition to detecting both conductive and non-conductive utilities, GPR can also locate buried tanks, voids, and underground cavities.

GPR locating is considered a Class B locate. This step is performed prior to Class A locate via potholing.

Vacuum Excavation is extremely effective in cleaning out service pits and underground ducting / drainage.

With the use of high pressure jetting blockages can we removed without damaging the asset.
